KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Christopher Spence
Retired United States Army Special Forces

Join us as we welcome MSG (Ret.) Christopher C. Spence, a 25-year Army veteran whose 17 years in the 5th Special Forces Group shaped some of America’s most pivotal moments in modern military history.

Chris deployed throughout the Middle East, served in the first wave of U.S. forces entering Afghanistan after 9/11, completed three combat tours in Iraq, and led the first major expansion of Special Forces capabilities in 20 years—building the battalion that became the model for all future Special Forces units.

His now-iconic horseback images of American Special Forces in Afghanistan were used by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and inspired the “America’s Response Monument” at the 9/11 Memorial. One of his photos is permanently displayed in the Smithsonian Institution.

Today, Chris serves as a Subject Matter Expert for UNIT Solutions and volunteers as Program Director for the 5th Special Forces Scholarship Fund. He is also an Oregon Military Hall of Fame inductee and recipient of the 2025 Horse Soldier Bourbon “Be Cowboy” Award.

A rare opportunity to hear from a leader whose legacy spans the battlefield, the classroom, and the stories that shaped a generation.
